Copyright is defined as "the exclusive legal right granted for a specified period to an author, designer, etc., or another appointed person, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material." (Canadian Oxford Dictionary 336).
So, if you don't have permission to use someone else's work, in terms of reprinting their work, performing, playing or displaying their work, then you are infringing on their rights as authors, and are breaking copyright law.
